Diluting web Design in newtownabbey by overchanging concepts

Design in it's basic form

Many people define web design in different ways and can attribute many concepts to their beliefs on the Design council website it defines it simply as:

"Design is what links creativity and innovation. It shapes ideas to become practical and attractive propositions for users or customers. Design may be described as creativity deployed to a specific end.’ - The Design Council

There is also how web designers define this concept:

"Design is taking the key concepts in a clients mind and developing the idea into an example prior to launch that meets the specific requirements of that client."

Diluting the concept

We as web design gurus if you will will always pitch forward our best concepts and ideas based around your idea or concept, all too often we allow many changes to be made to this concept resulting in a website that no longer resembles the design we created.

Now don't get me wrong it is good to know your own mind and tohave your design completed the way you want, it is also important to remember if the chance refusal by a designer to change something happens then dont' dismay as they are doing it for a reason as what they don't want for you if they are a good designer is your site to be diluted or in laymans terms not to resemble or in any way look like the original design.

What does that mean?

Diluting a web design means very simply making so many changes that the design can no longer be anything closely resembling what it originally was or function seo wise or asthetically wise perform as intended.

We as Web Designers Belfast, love eye cathcing sites or sites that perform to their full potential, we don't mind changes only if they are warranted or required. Changing too many key aspects of your design can result in it's performance being affected like SEO, Design, Speed etc.

Changes are good

Changes can be quite good if there is a concept that will help a site perform better and most designers or agencies will embrace a change like this, but one has to be wary not to apply too many.

In Conclusion

Web design is a key aspect of your online presence and and can be the single most pleasing aspect of your business, always remeber that the designer is in touch mostly with what works online and what does not so don't be offended if he/she refuses to make desired changes to a design.

Knowing your local web designer in Belfast

Using your head when choosing a web designer in Belfast

Knowing your rights and obligations

You have decided to get a web designer to build your site as you have tried numerous other methods like:

Online free builders, Online built systems and others we could go into others but it would be too long. You have now discovered that it does not give you what you need and is very restrictive in it's nature and is very impersonal.

When you start the process of finding your ideal designer you have a few things you need to think about, I could go into these here but in a previous post I listed what you needed to do to be safe in  Understanding the process of design You have also been to the like of Freelance sites and been bitten haven't you.

We could also mention a lot of freelance sites here but why name and shame them a lot of designers even freelancers know their worth or not as the case may be. If you do decide to use such a site be careful as you may not get the service you want or deserve, get proactive in your search as this is a big decision you are making and you need to be ready and clued up to the way it works.

Be sure you know what they are offering and what you will get for your money, now we are not saying get tough with them as this would be unfair after all most work very hard to deliver you a service often to tight deadlines and often with a lot of stress, be thoughtful and mindful of how hard some work and don't impose unrealistic deadlines as all you will do is rush the process and you may end up with a site created in haste.

If you have been wondering how to choose a web designer in belfast face to face is always best and you can get a feel for how they operate.

Understanding the process of design

Web design and it's process

Understanding the way us designers think!

So you have got an idea for a website, you have chosen the name, the style of site you would like and the name. Now it's time to choose your designer/s, at this point you get a little scared don't you?.

I understand most honest web designers/ developers do, it is a very scary time you are a little apprehensive about handing over a deposit and possibly a huge wad of cash to someone you may have only met a few times. Don't worry I will take you through the process of doing this that may or may not put your mind at ease.

First of all the checks to make before deciding on your chosen one!

  1. Are they affiliated with any organizations
  2. Do they have a decent portfolio
  3. Is there testimonials that you can ask for or see that you can call or email for verification
  4. Do they have the skill set to provide what you want
  5. How large of a deposit do they require
  6. Do they have an easy payment option
Now first lets just make clear some of the above points are not exhaustive but they are the basic ones.

Lets look at them more closely:

  1.  affiliations are important but at the moment there is no clear group or organization that operates for web designers but there is one for graphic or artists. There is also a start up group called UKWDA they are trying to create a standard for web designers.
  2. The size of a portfolio is not important but the quality is, do they meet W3C standards the new web standard and does it look as if they pay very close attention to detail. It is not important that maybe they have not done your type of design or site before as this is not what you are looking for flexibility in design and standards is.
  3. Testimonials a very important but be wary always make sure to ask can i contact this person who left the testimonial as some unscrupulous ones are faking these testimonials , Not Good! so always double check honest designers won't mind.
  4. Now skill set is important if you are unsure if they can provide what you want ask for examples or a mock up of the type of site you want very important this one it will help you decide if they can deliver the goods.
  5. Large deposits can be scary how do you know they are not going to disappear with your money, best way to be assured of this get it in writing like a contract and always have the designers full postal and contact details, ask for these if they are honest they won't mind providing them to you. Also negotiate a smaller deposit if you are unsure typically myself i charge 25% as a deposit not a huge amount but some charge anything from 10% - 70% typically up to 50% is considered ok.
  6. Payment options at the end of your design process can help alleviate any concerns you may have, ask the designer if you are unsure can they provide smaller payments monthly. Now I am not saying here that designers who don't provide this are not trustworthy far from it, as i do know personally quite a few who don't provide this but a very trustworthy indeed so don't be thinking that just because they don't provide such a service they are not trustworthy it's just a suggestion at this point.
Now I myself provide a monthly payment plan as this helps the customer feel at home and feel as though they are getting something for their money every month.

Now we said at the beginning that we where going to help you understand the process truth is all designers have different processes but i myself use this one most do.

  1. We collect the information regarding the site functions and design
  2. we create a mock design
  3. we make changes based on your feedback
  4. we develop the functions
  5. we make changes based on your feedback
  6. we plug design into functioning site
  7. we launch site
These are some of our processes and most designers deliver their services based on a similar mindset and process. Your designer if he is a good one will always keep you informed what step you are on and constantly ask for feedback from you after all it is your site.

Well i have gone into a lot here but it is not exhaustive here if there is anything i missed out please do comment and let our readers know.

5 Ordinances that Tend to Make Web Designing an Immaculate Zeal

It is often believed that zeal or passion never go along with any commandments or rules for moving ahead to make one achieve what she or he desires. However, in the professional world, this is not the case, especially in the creative field of Web designing. As a designer, one tends to focus on technical details, processes, and execution strategies by keeping in mind some fundamentals, principles, or commandments. This approach is essential for making the team of designers work in coordination with the same information regarding the processes and implementation. Ordinances or guiding principles remind one of the basics that can be even shared with the colleagues so that there is consistency in the final output. Further, they also help you sharpen your design process to face challenges that you may face in future. So, here are the primary ordinances for every Web designer to follow in this evolving tech world of diverse devices and incredible possibilities.

Mobile Support is Essential.

With the increasing use of iPads, tablets, laptops, and smartphones for accessing the World Wide Web; there is no doubt that your Web designing projects must be mobile-friendly. As per the latest statistics, 700k Android, 143k Blackberry, and 200k Nokia smartphones were already in use by early 2012. Further, even Facebook has reported that more people are using their most famous social network through mobile Web. This indicates that for any business to succeed, it is vital that it makes its site available even on the mobile Web. Therefore, one of the modern commandments for the Web designers is to ensure mobile support for the sites they design.

Customize Only after Optimization.

If something new is released after which real time monitoring indicate the need of second round of innovation, it becomes essential to prioritize that round. There may be a need of optimization as well as customization in this round. Optimization includes technical solutions for ensuring compact file sizes and greater site visibility; customization entails the ideas of improvements in terms of navigation, features, or content. Of the two, optimization must given more priority over customizations. When you speed up the access rate, you are allowing users to access and interact with your site, which is the sole goal of online business. This comes only from optimization. Therefore, optimization comes first!

Ensure Reusability.

This means that the designers must craft an element in such a way that it can be published almost on any platform. This is actually the sign of an efficient workflow. Here, the need is to create a sole, simple workflow that generates Web elements only once but distributes them effectively to all gadgets. Focus should not be only on looks and placements of these elements but also on quality, especially in case of content publishing. So, it is vital to model content types by keeping in mind the core needs coupled with the vision of multi-channel reuse. Such an approach with consistency and simplicity in terms of design and data feeds can be used by online apps and widgets as well for swift experimentation and innovation without making any initial infrastructure changes.

Develop a Flexible Visual Style Guide

Instead of maintaining a variety of unique designs, it is more efficient to have a flexible visual style guide that can offer aesthetic guidance for several screen sizes. The underlying ideal is to allow rapid design decisions for publishing on any target device. Having a collection of specific designs for specific scenarios or devices actually limit your ability to innovate and react quickly. There are a few tools and processes, which can help you to achieve this, so that the new experimental designs do not start with their own new route.

SEO - Are you ready for success?

online success the easy way
Are you promised a lot by SEO companies?

We often get questions from clients asking us if it is possible to elevate their business to higher vistor numbers but in their words "as quickly as possible", well we usually take a deep breath and calmly and truthfully advise them that online success is varied and that no one single person controls who is successful or not.

ultimately it is your own efforts not just the expert that you employ to deliver these tasks that are responsible for you success remember

"In order to succeed you must fail, so that you know what not to do the next time."
Think about this for a moment, you want to succeeed but you want it the easy way don't you?  Well this is not possible unless you have really sound business idea that everybody wants and they will scramble over each other to get it.

Don't be taken in by promises of riches by unscrupulous sellers that claim to have the next big money making scheme, after all these are all just schemes and not real money making oportunities.

Now you may ask what this all has to do with SEO and web design, well i will tell you it has a lot in common with what I am about to talk about. SEO or Search Engine Optimisation as it is more commonly known is a specialist subject and some companies will promise you top listings and rankings in short periods of time.

"DO NOT BE TAKEN IN, DO NOT BE TAKEN BY CROOKS"

I use strong words because that is what they are, crooks who will take your money on a promise they cannot keep, as there are many factors that must be taken into consideration when seo is performed on a site that include:

  1. correct optimisation of images
  2. alt tags used very effectively (no keyword stuffing)
  3. descriptive H1-H4 tags that are rellevant to the site
  4. well written and delivered content
  5. well researched keywords
  6. researched target market
These are just a few more also need sto be considered about ease of use of site, multi platform devices and disability needs.
Seo is competative and there are many sites offering the same product ir service as yours, unless you are lucky and have found a niche then wow you are part the way there. Failure comes before success, and it is true of web seo.

failing seo
Seo is it passing you by?

We have all thought, "I wish i could be on the front page of google earning thousands per month". Truth is those on the front page may not be making that at all and the amount they may have spent to get there has not been worth it.

Never choose seo for the purpose of gaining high sales because you will be sadly disapointed as it may never work. Choose seo because you want to offer something that will be around for a long time.

The very short answer to the question at the top of this article is no SEO cannot be performed quickly it takes time and effort on both your part and the web developers. don't expect miracles from seo unless your seo guy is an seo JESUS, of which i doubt.
